Natal mainline and Redan area – 28/04/2014

A break from Stars of Sandstone posts went out to the Natal mainline around Greylingstad, this area is very prone to mist in the morning and the 28th was no exception. Got PRASA 18 425 with a late running Durban passenger and 43 115 & 43 116 with a load of container coal for Tutuka power station near Standerton. I chased the train to the power station but really any photo ops on the branch due to limited access. Spent the afternoon around Redan but not much traffic probably due to the long weekend

The weather on days 3 and 4 was not great with heavy cloud and some rain, so I have combined the photos from those days into one post.

Stars of Sandstone 2014 – Day 2

Day two was mostly overcast so photography was fairly challenging. Got NG 15 No. 17 on morning photo train and NG\G 16 153 & 88 doing work on the afternoon passenger train with NG\G 16 113 on a dinner special. The military vehicles were busy tearing up the grass in the demonstration area.

Stars of Sandstone 2014 – Day 1

A selection of photos from day 1 of the Stars of Sandstone 2014 event held at Sandstone Estates 2 foot narrow gauge line near Ficksburg in the eastern Free State. Locomotives featured are Avonside 1624 on her first outing of restoration from a pile of pieces rescued from the now defunct SANRASM museum, the restoration was carried out by Lukas Nel and his steam team at the Sandstone workshops in Bloemfontein. Also featured is Sezela No. 3 and NG\G 16 Garratts 153 and 88
