Semaphores and 6E1s

On the 30th November I went down to area between Westleigh and Rooiwal on the Johannesburg Kroonstad line to photograph the Shosholoza Meyl trains from Port Elizabeth and East London with semaphores at Rooiwal. According to news reports these semaphores will probably be replaced with CTC next year. After chasing a few freights I moved up the line to the Vereeninging area and was very lucky to get a 6E with a 6E1 on a container train, in the close up the difference in bogies is clearly visible. Last photograph shows a set of 18E locomotives in the new TFR livery, these are conversions from the 6E1s

SAR Steam Tours – Visit to Sandstone Estates

The tour party visited the Sandstone Estates 2ft narrow gauge system near Ficksburg in the Free State for some action with NG\G16 153 and Little Bess. They will be having their annual Stars of Sandstone event in April 2014 where most of the locomotives in their large collection will be running. SAR steam tours are planning a tour to coincide with this event.

SAR Steam Tours November Tour – First leg to Cullinan

Things have been a bit quiet on the blog recently as I have been very busy at Reefsteamers upgrading our sleeper train set for the SAR steam tours ( http://www.sarsteamtours.com/ ) and crewing the tour in mid-November.
