35 Class Diesels Caledon – December 2017

TFR 35 Class diesels 35-037 & 35-065 bring back a short train from the SAB malting plant in Caledon. Normally four 35 class diesels are used for a full load on this heavily graded branch line.

The SAB malting plant in Caledon Western Cape keeps the Cape Town Caledon branch busy with heavy grain trains. The line is heavily graded and for most of the time the 35 class diesels are working flat out on the journey from Caledon to Elgin covered in these photos

35 Class Diesels between Malmesburg and Piketberg – 18/12/204

Class 35 (GE U15C) diesels hard at work on the branch line between Malmesburg and Piketberg, the line winds it’s way through the wheat lands of the Boland area. A train load of Granite blocks from Bitterfontein crosses the daily pickup to the cement works at De Hoek just outside Piketberg. Shunters travel on the orange caboose.
